Best in the Region

A Facebook "friend" turned me onto WDAY's Best of the Region contest and I thought I'd share it with all of you. Of course, we'd love it if you picked Pout for the Best children's Store and/or Best Toy store but there are lots of other categories as well. This link http://www.wday.com/pages/shopping will take you to the shopping portion of the contest but when you are done there, you can just go back to the main menu and choose your favorite Entertainment, Food & Drink, Service, Health, Transportation, and Ag business. It's always nice to recognize your favorite businesses to let them know all their hard work is appreciated.

Hope you all had a great Turkey Day! We got some much needed family time, Holly with her sister and nephew and me with my parents and sister's family. I have to say the most exciting thing of all was Lucy's very first poop in the potty. You know you're a mom when you brag about your child's poop on a blog but hey....it was pretty cool! My little baby is officially out of diapers and I'm torn between being really proud of her big girl accomplishment and feeling sad for her to be growing up so fast! I guess that's what being a mommy is all about.

Have a great weekend and remember we have LOTS of cool and unique toys for your little ones Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers.

Oh, and all Petunia Picklebottom clutches will remain 40% OFF so stop in and check them out if you haven't already.

3/50 Friday!

Here's a piece from the Always Upward blog written by the 3/50 project founder Cinda Baxter that I thought I would share with the big "Black Friday" coming up. Whether it be Pout (which of course we would LOVE) or any other of your favorite independant retailers in Fargo-Moorhead....get out there and support your local economy this Friday! We will of course be closed for Thanksgiving day but will be open again normal hours 10am-6pm on "3/50 Friday!" :)

Forget all that big box mumbo jumbo the day after Thanksgiving (who really likes being in those crowds, anyway?). This year, I say we rename the day that follows turkey and mashed potatoes.
I say we call it 3/50 Friday, in celebration of
The 3/50 Project. It will be the day we each vow to stop into at least one independent, locally owned brick and mortar to say thanks….

Thanks for smiling and greeting me by name.

Thanks for remembering that I love peonies and detest carnations.

Thanks for asking how my mother is doing, then being sincerely happy when I say she’s well.

Thanks for restocking my favorite candle even though it’s that crazy lime green color.

Thanks for helping me locate the perfect gift for the boss I barely know.

Thanks for laughing when I need a lift and for listening when I need to let down.

Thanks for noticing when I’ve changed my haircut.

Thanks for not noticing when I dashed over in wrinkled sweats for a last minute present.

Thanks for donating to my kids’ fundraiser, and thanks for putting their poster in your window.

Thanks for rushing my order, and thanks for not guilt tripping me about it.

Thanks for staying an extra fifteen minutes the day I got stuck in traffic.

Thanks for that extra cup of coffee, then saying it’s on the house.

Thanks for carrying the financial burdens you do, all to provide a place for me to come.

Thanks for being one of the little guys, responsible for such a big chunk of what makes our
community tick.

Thanks for being here for me. For us. For everyone.

Hope to see you soon!

Jellycat

When you first have a baby, you get SO many stuffed animals and it's rare for any one to actually stand out. That being said, when a friend of ours visited Lucy and I in the hospital the day after she was born, they brought us a stuffed animal frog that I instantly fell in love with! As Lucy as gotten bigger, she's always loved Pete (her name for him) the frog but it wasn't until a customer mentioned a wonderful brand of stuffed animals that she loved that I realized this was the same company Pete came from! We knew we had to carry these and let me tell you, they are soooo scrumptious. The best part? They also come in little stocking stuffer sizes so your little one can take them everywhere. Here are just a few of the ones we got in this week.

Seriously, how can you resist? And now for the good part. Leave a comment on which one of these 4 is your favorite and someone will be chosen at random to win a FREE Jellycat tot animal.
We will announce the winner on Monday, November 23, 2009 so keep an eye on the blog to see if you've won.

an absolute Favorite!

I just realized the other day while putting away a shipment that I had never blogged about one of my ABSOLUTE favorite products EVER! When Lucy was a teeny baby, I tried a ton of different carriers and slings. None of them worked quite the way I wanted and weren't always as comfortable as I needed them to be. Then one day when shopping in St. Paul, I stopped in a little boutique in search of ANOTHER one to try. The gal pointed me to the Baby K'tan but because it looked way too confusing for me and only came in sold colors (I'm defintely a bright colorful kind of girl), I almost didn't even consider it. She insisted I try in on and from that moment on, I was hooked! I used this carrier all the time and it was the only one that I felt I could truly go "hands free" in.

Because this carrier accomodates babies from Newborn up to 42 pounds (yes I said 42 pounds) you can definitely get plenty of use of out this! I used this in place of a stroller almost everywhere I went and Lucy loved it! Perfect for travel or just day to day around the house.
We have a variety of solid colors in stock (sorry....no camo) and even can help you try one on. They look confusing but I assure you, if I could figure it out with no problem, you can too. :) I believe there is about 8 different hold and a detailed instruction booklet as well as a great website with video to help you as well.
Stop in and check them out!

Let's get messy

Holly's little Isabelle is a little artist in the making and I can't wait for her (and of course Lucy too) to try the products we just got in.
The creator of Ecokids, Cammie, realized the need for safe and natural art supplies and toys while employed as a nanny for 15 years. It wasn't until she had her son however, that she first made a homemade playdough recipe of her mother's which eventually resulted in Ecokids! They now make and offer art supplies and toys for creative play the natural way. Best of all, they are environmentally friendly, designed with the most natural, sustainable, and reusable material.

We just got in both the Eco-dough and Eco-paint which is a finger paint made of all natural ingredients as well.
Either of these are the perfect gift for your little artisits.
Happy Friday!

Par-tay!

So...after the battle royale in the middle of the night last night with my Lucy, I'm on very little sleep so forgive me if things don't make sense!

There as been so many new things arriving that it's hard to decide what to post but when these showed up yesterday, I couldn't wait to show them off. We've always wanted to offer some sort of birthday/party accessories and we finally found some that we LOVE! Check these out!

These are just a few of the candle sets we got in but we also have coordinating napkins, table runners and even some fun paper lanterns!
I almost want to make a cake just so I can use those candles!!! Almost being the key word because really, who has time to make a cake "just because"?

New cloth diapers & accessories!

We have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of BumGenius' new products which were supposed to arrive in December and to our surprise, we received them this week! We of course will continue to carry the BumGenius 3.0 pocket diaper but have also added their new Flip and Econobum to the mix.

The Flip is more of a compromise between the traditional prefold cotton diaper/waterproof cover combination and the pocket diaper. It is a two piece system that allows you to re-use the cover and simply replace the insert. They even have a disposible insert that is convenient for when you are out and about and don't want to carry around dirty cloth.

The Econobum is their version of the before mentioned prefold/waterproof cover combo. It is definitely more economical and offers an option for those who don't have the means to invest money in the more "user friendly" versions. All of them are one size diaper which means you purchase them ONCE!
Along with these great new products, we also now carry the bumGenius diaper sprayer, bottom cleaner, odor remover, and flannel wipes. These are all great products that we've had MANY requests for and are happy to finally have on hand for our customers.
Please stop in any time to check out what cloth diapering is all about!
Oh and if you haven't already, pick up the latest issue of On the Minds of Moms for a lot of great stuff including an article written by our very own Holly on this exact topic! Also, one of our favorite girls, Bonnie, is lucky to be married to this month's "rad dad" (and we think he's pretty lucky too)!
I also want to mention a quick thank you to all of our military (including Holly's husband Luke who is currently deployed) for your service. Please remember them on this Veteran's Day.

Do you tweet?

I'm not so great at the whole twitter thing but I've started one for the store and would LOVE if you "followed" us! Gosh, that sounds desperate huh? I'm going to try to update as much as possible and maybe even have some contests every now and then.

Also, since Facebook has made some changes regarding groups and fan pages, we now have one of each! I'm updating the Fan page regularly so if you aren't a "fan" you should become one (again....sounding desperate). I'm trying to merge the two but I'm not sure if that's possible. This is all a little confusing to me!

We have another exciting anouncement coming soon so you'll have to keep checking the blog to keep up to date.

Have a great weekend!

It sounds like a plan

As I type, I'm staring at a tower of boxes that were just delivered from FedEx containing one of my favorite brand of TOYS! Plan toys practices the "Three R's" of green living: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Their manufacturing processes are designed to reduce waste and save energy. They reuse materials, and have introduced innovative methods to recycle paper and other products. And above all their toys are top quality and CUTE!

These are just a few of the cute things we have so you'll have to stop in and check them out. Remember Christmas is approaching quickly so buy early and you can avoid some of the holiday STRESS!

Winter Daily Tea line is HERE!

As one of our most popular clothing lines, Daily Tea pretty much sells itself. Great quality, mix and match pieces, and a good price point are some of the selling points of this great line. Today though when I was going through the new stuff, I have to say I think this is my favorite season of this line so far. The colors and prints are so cute and because of the great quality, your little ones can wear this anywhere! Yes, Lucy can even wear this to daycare where she gets so dirty I barely recognize her some days. All the pieces I've had have always washed up so well that I don't mind sending her off for a day of hard play in these clothes.

We currently have sizes 2t-5t in this line and will keep you posted on when the baby sizes arrive.

Green Toys

Green Toys is a brand we've been looking to add for quite some time so I was really excited to get their shipment in today! Not only are there toys made in the USA, but they are made out of recycled milk jugs! You would never guess that is where these cute toys came from...check out this great dump truck and tea set.

Another cool thing is that their environmental mission even extends to their packaging. All Green Toys products are packaged in recycled corrugated boxes with no plastics, cellophane or twist-ties, and are 100% recyclable. Seriously, I can't tell you how awesome it is to NOT have to deal with all those twistie things that are IMPOSSIBLE to get off.

Remember that it's already November so start buying gifts early and get it off your to-do list!

Halloween 2009

So, we were really busy here at the store Saturday and although we had lots of kids in only one little peanut showed up in costume. Look at how cute she was...

The remainder of the day was spent with our girls, Lucy and Isabelle...I mean Dorothy and Tinkerbell, trick or treating.
Can you tell how much they love each other? They spent most of the night giggling and I swear as soon as they see each other, they are on cloud nine! The best part is that this is their THIRD year trick or treating together and the first year they walked by themselves the whole time and didn't even have one major meltdown. I love that we all have these great memories together.

2007 - Don't they look thrilled?

2008 - the cutest bugs around

2009 - best lil buddies

We hope you all had a safe and happy Halloween!

Stay tuned this week as we'll be getting more new product PLUS the new shipment of Winter Daily Tea!!!
